The Private Beach Geography Quiz
Q. What do the following countries have in common:
Well I've thrown this at all the members of my quiz team and we guess you're looking for something like secession, but you have to define the term pretty broadly for this to be accurate.
Not too broadly, I think. Algeria and Suriname were officially part of France and the Netherlands respectively before independence. These cases are all since World War Two. I left the dissolution of the USSR and the bloody breakup of Yugoslavia out of the list, as well as Kosovo, which has only achieved partial recognition internationally.
